WHAT is Friends of MSHA?
Friends of MSHA is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that was established in 2025 to support promising students, researchers, and clinicians who contribute to advancement in the field of speech-language pathology and audiology.
WHY was Friends of MSHA established?
Friends of MSHA was established to ease the burden of student loans for speech-language pathologists and audiologists. According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the cost to obtain a doctorate of audiology can range from $76,000 to $150,000, while a master’s in speech-language pathology can range from $23,000 to $75,000. Among students pursuing audiology and speech-language pathology degrees, over two-thirds of master's students and more than three-quarters of doctoral students have unpaid student debt. Most students reported having debt between $10,000 and $50,000, however, some anecdotal estimates show student debt between $130,000 and $250,000.
WHEN will Friends of MSHA begin to accept donations?
Friends of MSHA will begin to accept donations on May 1, 2025, to celebrate National Speech Language Hearing Month. Donations will be accepted all year long with another donation campaign planned for Giving Tuesday in December.
